5TH ANNUAL WILLIAMSBURG LIVE SONGWRITER COMPETITION

1ST PRIZE – $4000

Brooklyn, NY, September 23, 2008: Sponsored by Sam Ash Music Stores and Magic Hat Brewing Company, the 5th Annual Williamsburg Live Songwriter Competition (WLSC2008) has extended its sign-up deadline to October 6th. Song submissions are screened by the competition’s producer, Jezebel Music NYC* (a division of JezebelMusic.com), and 150 contestants are chosen to play for a grand prize of $4,000. The competition spans eight nights and seven venues between November 15th and 22nd, 2008.

During the first six nights of the competition, 25 performers will play each night in front of a panel of judges, consisting of representatives from record labels, management companies, music websites, and other music industry professions (WLSC2008 judges are listed below). From each of these 2nd Round nights (the first round comprises the song submissions), the judges will pick three semi-finalists, totaling 18 semifinalists. At the semifinals, the judges will narrow it down to nine finalists, and finally three winners. Cash prizes are 1st: $4000; 2nd: $750, 3rd: $250.

The competition is open worldwide. Whether you’re a Brooklyn native, a Canadian street musician, or an up and coming Malagasy folkie, any one who has sold under 250,000 CD’s over the last five years who wants to be heard, discovered, introduced to a plethora of talented peers and enjoy what has become the best songwriter party in New York City can sign-up.

Local favorite Michael Grubbs, of Wakey! Wakey! will host the WLSC2008. The Finals after party will feature the bands Wakey! Wakey! and Creaky Boards.
